A Song in the Night

A Song in the Night

on Psalms 42:1-11

When darkness surrounds us, we find a song within, a melody of hope that carries us through.

Listen
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. (Psalms 42:1)

The psalmist's cry begins with longing. A deer in the wilderness, its sides heaving, searching for the life-giving stream. So our souls search for God. Not just any god, but the living God, the one who breathes life into the dry, cracked places of our hearts. We thirst, and in our thirst, we find ourselves asking,

Let us pray.

O God, our souls thirst for You in the night. When we feel cast down, remind us of Your presence. Give us a song in our darkness, a melody of hope and trust. Be the light we need to see by. In Jesus' name, amen.
