A World No Longer Safe for Conflict
It's a strange world where even the angels seem to need a GPS. Just this past Tuesday, Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, boasted of his military's success in making the Middle East a "no longer safe place" for American bases. His words followed Tehran's extensive strikes on 20 US military sites across eight countries since late February. Satellite images reveal the damage to state-of-the-art air defense systems, refueling aircraft, and radars, painting a picture far more complex than the US has publicly acknowledged.

The Middle East conflict, fueled by US-Israeli strikes across Iran and Lebanon, has seen Tehran retaliate with precision, targeting bases in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Bahrain, and Oman. Millions of dollars in damage have been reported, with key facilities hit hard, including anti-ballistic missile batteries in the UAE and Jordan. The Pentagon, meanwhile, remains tight-lipped, citing operational security. Yet, the reality is undeniable: the ripples of conflict have spread far and wide.

In the midst of this turmoil, one might wonder, where is the peace promised in scripture? Psalm 46:9 speaks of a God who "maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire." (Psalm 46:9) Yet here we stand, surrounded by the echoes of conflict, yearning for a peace that seems just out of reach.

The irony is not lost on us. We live in a world where the sword seems to have the upper hand, but the Word tells us of a different reality. A reality where the Prince of Peace reigns, where swords are beaten into plowshares, and nations no longer lift up sword against nation. This is the vision that should guide us, even as the world around us trembles.

As we witness these events unfold, let us not forget the personal call to peace in our own lives. The conflicts on the world stage, including the ongoing Middle East conflict, can often mirror the battles within our own hearts. We yearn for control, for power, for security. Yet, just as the nations struggle, so do we, often finding ourselves at war with our own desires.

We want a manageable God. We get a holy one. One who calls us to lay down our arms, to seek reconciliation, and to trust in His sovereignty. The sharp antithesis is clear: the world offers conflict, but God offers peace. It is in this contrast that we find our call to action. To be peacemakers in a world of war, to be light in the darkness, to trust that the same God who promises to make wars cease is at work in our hearts, even now.

So, as the world watches the unfolding drama in the Middle East, let us turn our eyes to the One who holds the world in His hands. And let us ask ourselves: in the midst of conflict, where do we find our peace?
