God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Eternal life is not earned by the worthy but received by the believing, and it begins now, for this is life eternal, to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He hath sent. These passages set out that promise in the Lord's own words.

John 3:16
