Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities. The cross is the centre of the Christian faith, the place where God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. These passages keep us near it, and teach us to glory in nothing else.
