Who you are is settled not by your failures, your achievements, or other people's opinions, but by what God declares over those who belong to His Son. Scripture calls believers children of God, new creatures, a chosen generation. These passages answer the question of identity the way heaven answers it. Read them slowly, and let what God says outweigh what you feel.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: peculiar: or, purchased praises: or, virtues 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. he is: or, let him be
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: power: or, the right, or, privilege
