The peace of God is not the absence of trouble but a garrison around the heart in the middle of it. Jesus left His peace to His people as a deliberate gift, knowing exactly what kind of world they would face. These verses describe a calm that holds when circumstances do not, and a Prince whose government carries it.

John 14:27
